Normal, Ill. – The Gustavus women’s golf team shot a two-day 665 (+89) to finish fifth at the Illinois Wesleyan University Spring Fling held at Ironwood Golf Course on Saturday and Sunday. The Gusties shot a 336 on day one and a 329 on day two to earn a top five standing. DePauw University won the tournament with a 619 (+43), while Washington University (Mo.) placed second with a 640 (+64), and Illinois Wesleyan took third after a 646 (+70).
The Gusties were led by sophomore Sam Falk (Glenwood, Minn.) who posted a top five finish for the second time this season. Falk fired a 77 on day one and a 79 on day two to finish in a tie for fifth place with a 156 (+12).
Next in line for Gustavus was Kayleigh Dittes (Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Chloe Altmann (Fy., Olivia, Minn.). Dittes finished in 24th with an 86-82-168 (+24), and Altmann placed 31st with an 87-84-171 (+27).
Leading the field of 93 golfers was Kelsey Smith of DePauw who won the tournament with a 149 (+5). Megan Geraghty of Illinois Wesleyan and Camila Romero rounded out the podium in a tie for second place with 153s (+9).
The Gustavus women’s golf team will be back in action on April 20-21 when it hosts the Gustavus Triangular in Le Sueur and Mankato.
