St. Paul, Minn. – Gustavus Adolphus senior track and field athlete Ryan Ness (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Field Athlete-of-the-Week for his performance at the Wartburg Outdoor Select held this past weekend in Waverly, Iowa.  Ness turned in what was the men’s squad’s top finish of the weekend by winning the javelin competition with a throw of 188-feet 9-inches (57.53m).

The meet was Gustavus’s first action of the outdoor season, as Ness defeated the second place finisher from Loras by more than five feet.  His throw was the best of his career, topping his old career-best mark of 166-feet 11-inches set last season in a runner-up performance at the 2012 MIAC Championships.  The senior now has the top throw in the MIAC by more than two full meters, and his distance ranks 33rd in Division III this spring.

The Gustavus men’s and women’s track and field teams will be in action next on Saturday, April 13 when they host the Lee Krough Invitational set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
