Storm Lake, Iowa – The Gustavus Adolphus baseball team dropped two games to Buena Vista University in a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon.  After the Gusties jumped out to an early 1-0 lead following their first at-bat, the Beavers came back to score four unanswered runs to take a 4-1 lead on their way to the 6-2 final.  A five-run first inning for Buena Vista in game two propelled the Beavers on to the sweep.  Gustavus drops to 3-11 on the season while Buena Vista improves to 9-7.

Game 1 – Gustavus 2, Buena Vista 6

The Gusties got off to a strong start in game one with a run in their first round at the plate.  An RBI single by Drew Block (Sr., Rochester, Minn.) scored Taylor Bigandt (Fr., Littleton, Colo.) to take the 1-0 lead.  Gustavus continued on to load the bases with only one out, but left two stranded when the Beavers got a much needed double-play to escape any further damage.

Buena Vista answered with a run of its own in the bottom half of the first.  Ryan Scheetz singled to right field that scored Weston Foxx and tied the game at 1-1.  Like the Gusties, the Beavers also left two stranded after Gustavus starting pitcher Connor Norris (Sr., Omaha, Neb.) was able to close the inning with a strikeout.

The Beavers continued on to score one in the third and two in the fourth to take a 4-1 lead and would not look back.  Gustavus was able to narrow the gap by scoring a run in the top of the fifth inning, but Buena Vista came back with a run in the bottom of the fifth and the sixth to capture the 6-2 victory.

In the game, the Gusties actually outhit the Beavers by a count of 7-4, but a pair of home runs for Buena Vista proved to be the difference in the contest.  Logan Peymann (So., Fairmont, Minn.) suffered the loss for the Gusties.  Reggie Kock was credited with the win for the Beavers.  Garrett Fuchs (So., Cold Spring, Minn.) paced the Gusties at the plate with a 2-for-3 effort.
