Peoria, Ariz. – The Gustavus Adolphus women’s golf team kicked off its spring season with a fifth place finish at the Phoenix Invitational held March 15th and 16th at the Westbrook Village Golf Club. After shooting a 330 on day one, Gustavus shot a 326 on day two, finishing +88 as team over the weekend.
Host institution George Fox University won the tournament with a two-day 611 (+43). Washington-St. Louis placed second with a 633 (+65), and Redlands finished third with a 640 (+72).
The Gusties were led by senior Kayleigh Dittes (Eden Prairie, Minn.) who finished inside the top 10 for the sixth time this season. Dittes finished in a four-way tie for ninth with a two-day 160. She shot back-to-back 80s to end up +18 over the weekend.
George Fox swept the podium as Kelsey Morrison won the tournament with a 144 (+2). Loreece Magsanide and Abby Mann tied for second with 152s (+10).
Sam Falk (So., Glenwood, Minn.), Jordan Drenttel (So., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.), and Lauren Johnson (So., Plymouth, Minn.) all finished inside the top 20. Falk placed 19th with a 79-86-165 (+23), while both Drenttel and Johnson took 20th with 166s (+24). Drenttel shot an 87-79, and Johnson went 84-82.
Chloe Altmann (Fy., Olivia, Minn.), who competed as an individual, finished 25th (85-82-168), and Liz Strom (So., Fargo, N.D.) rounded out the squad in 34th (89-85-174).
The Gustavus women’s golf team will be back in the warm weather on April 5th when it travels to St. Augustine, Fla. to take on Flagler College in a dual. The contest will be held at St. John’s Country Club.
