St. Peter, Minn. – For the third straight Saturday on its home courts, the Gustavus men’s tennis team took care of business with a pair of victories at the Swanson Tennis Center.  The Gusties kicked off the day with a 9-0 sweep of Saint John’s University in the morning, then cruised past Elmhurst College 9-0 later that night.  The win over the Johnnies pushed Gustavus’s league record to 4-0.  The Black and Gold’s victory over Elmhurst moved them to 11-4 overall.  The Gusties have now won six straight matches.

“It was an excellent team effort from our guys today,” said Head Coach Tommy Valentini.  “We used six different doubles teams and 12 singles players to earn a couple good team wins.”

Four different Gustavus players reached double-figure wins in singles today including Amrik Donkena (Sr., Rochester, Minn.), Brad Entwistle (So., Sioux Falls, S.D.), Tyler Johnson (West Bend, Wis.), and Mya Smith-Dennis (Jr., Savage, Minn.).

“It was a sign of our depth and the hard work our guys have been putting in,” continued Valentini about today’s performances.  “We played some strong doubles and showed good poise in singles throughout the day.  Most importantly, our guys competed hard and stuck together.”

The Gustavus men’s tennis team will be on the road next Saturday, March 23 with a pair of conference tests on opposite sides of the state.  The Gusties will face Concordia at 8:30 a.m. in Moorhead, and Bethel at 4:00 p.m. in Fridley.
