Battle At The Top: Women’s Hockey Set For Weekend Series With St. Catherine Posted on January 18th, 2013 by

St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus women’s hockey team is set to kick off a weekend series against St. Catherine University Friday night at Don Roberts Ice Rink.  The Gusties and Wildcats hold the top-two positions in the MIAC standings, making this weekend a pivotal series for both squads.  Gustavus is unbeaten on the year with a record of 12-0-0 (6-0-0) while St. Catherine posts a record of 8-5-0 (5-1-0 MIAC).  Friday night’s opening faceoff is set for 7:00 p.m.  Saturday afternoon, the two teams will head to Drake Arena in St. Paul for the second game of the two-game series, set to face off at 2:00 p.m.

Head Coach Mike Carroll will look to capture his 300th career win this weekend.  With a career coaching record of 299-68-22, Carroll looks to become just the second coach in NCAA Division III women’s hockey history to reach the milestone. The only other coach to do so is Bill Mandigo, head coach at Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vt.  Carroll will become the eighth coach in the history of NCAA women’s hockey to record win number 300, regardless of division.
