St. Peter, Minn. – The current six-game winning-streak held by the Gustavus Adolphus women’s basketball team can be credited to a strong 2012 finish through the month of December.  Much of the team’s success in the final four games before the holiday break is credited to the play of senior post Abby Rothenbuehler (North Mankato, Minn.) who led the Gusties to a 4-0 record inside a time-span of just eight days in the early stage of the month.  For her efforts, Rothenbuehler has been named the Gustavus Female Student-Athlete of the Month for December.

After beginning the MIAC season with a win against Augsburg on Nov. 28, Gustavus headed into stretch in which it was scheduled to play four games in eight days to close out the 2012 calendar year.  The Gusties rose to the challenge, winning all four games and improving to 6-2 overall and 5-0 in the MIAC heading into the holiday break.

After breaking out with 23 points against Augsburg, Rothenbuehler consistently finished in double-figures over the next four games.  She scored a month-best 18 points on the road against Saint Benedict and finished with a scoring averaging of 15 points per game in December.

Although the senior narrowly missed her first double-double of the season on several occasions through the first six games of the year, Rothenbuehler finished strong with back-to-back double-doubles to close out 2012.  She scored 11 points and brought down 10 rebounds against Bethel, then scored 15 points and had 10 boards against Carleton.

Rothenbuehler, a native a nearby North Mankato, averaged 8.8 rebounds while shooting 54.7-percent from the field, 83.3-percent from three-point range, and 75-percent from the free throw line.  She played an average of 33 minutes per game and recorded four blocked shots.

Abby Rothenbuehler and the rest of the Gustavus women’s basketball team will be back on the hardwood Saturday, Jan. 5 when the Gusties take on Hamline at 1:00 p.m. on Gus Young Court.  Gustavus is currently 7-2 overall and 6-0 in the MIAC.
