St. Peter, Minn. – For his steady and consistent play over the final month of the calendar year, Gustavus men’s basketball player Jim Hill (Sr., Edina, Minn.) has been named the December Male Student-Athlete of the Month.  Hill was the team’s leading scorer in three of six games over December, averaging double-figures and recording one double-double.  Gustavus went 3-3 over the month after getting back on track with two straight wins at the UW-Eau Claire Tournament.  The Black and Gold’s three losses came by a combined eight points.

Hill averaged 15.5 points per game with a season-high 21 coming on Dec. 28 in a win over UW-Superior.  He averaged 5.3 rebounds per game and recorded a season-best 13 boards in his double-double performance against Buena Vista on Dec. 8.  The senior wing shot 41.1-percent from the field, 43.9-percent from three-point range, and 67.5-percent at the line.  Playing in an average of 29 minutes per game, Hill dished out 12 assists, turned away three shots, and recorded six steals.

The Edina, Minn. native has scored in double-figures in every game this season, the only player on the team to do so.  He leads the team in scoring with a 16.3 points per game average and is shooting .488 from the floor.  Hill and Ben Biewen pace the Gusties in minutes (289) while Hill’s 4.9 rebounds per game average is the highest on the team.

After a 2-5 start to the season, the Gustavus men’s basketball team is now back at .500 with an overall record of 5-5 after three straight victories.  The Gusties will be in action next on Saturday when they play host to Hamline University at 3:00 p.m. on Gus Young Court.
