Men’s Swimming & Diving Competes In Day Two Of Jean Freeman Invite Posted on December 2nd, 2012 by

Kurt Youngdahl turned in Gustavus’ top finish on Saturday by winning the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:05.25.

Minneapolis – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams finished the weekend strong at the second day of the Jean Freeman Invitational held at the Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota this weekend.  No team scores were kept at the meet.

Kurt Youngdahl (Wayzata, Minn.) posted Gustavus’ top individual finish on Saturday by taking gold in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:05.25.  Youngdahl also added a seventh place finish in the 400 IM (4:24.78) and an eighth place mark in the 100 freestyle (49.06).

Sam Olson-Anstett (Shoreview, Minn.) turned in Gustavus’ next best finish of the day with his performance in the 200 butterfly.  Olson-Anstett recorded a time of 2:05.86 to place second behind Youngdahl.

Zac Solis (Centennial, Colo.) and Ross Larson (Brookings, S.D.) also contributed a finish on the podium.  Solis placed third in the 200 backstroke after touching the wall in 1:57.76, and also added a ninth place finish in the 400 IM with a time of 4:27.51.  Larson swam a 2:06.03 in the 200 butterfly to take third, and finished sixth in the 200 backstroke after going 2:02.09.

Jacob Stern (Rosemount, Minn.) and Elliot Hoekstra (Mendota Heights, Minn.) rounded out Gustavus’ top individual performers.  Stern posted a fourth place mark in the 200 breaststroke (2:14.77) and a 10th place finish in the 400 IM (4:28.11).  Hoekstra swam a 2:15.03 to take fifth in the 200 breaststroke.

Bennet Woltjer (Willmar, Minn.) was the top Gustie diver on Saturday, taking seventh in the three-meter (217.25) and eighth in the one-meter (253.40).

Gustavus’ best relay performance of the day came from the 400-free relay team made up of Kento Gurung (Eagan, Minn.), Kyle Herold (Ramsey, Minn.), Olson-Anstett, and Chris Bram (Rochester, Minn.).  The group registered a third place finish after touching the wall in 3:21.46.

The Jean Freeman Invitational was Gustavus’ final competition of the 2012 calendar year.  The Gusties will be back in action on Jan. 11 when they travel to Northfield, Minn. to take on Carleton in a dual at 5:00 p.m.
