Elk River, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s golf team is in first following the first round of the Twin Cities Classic on Saturday held at Elk River Golf Club.  The Gusties used a season-best 289 (+1) to give them a narrow one-shot lead over the University of Manitoba.  Play will resume tomorrow morning at the Links at North Fork in Ramsey, Minn.

“It was a good start for a long weekend,” stated head coach Scott Moe.  “We had a nice balance today, and as expected, it is crowded at the top and should stay that way for a very exciting couple of days.”

Tyler McMorrow (Jr., St. Clound, Minn.) led the way for the Gusties with his best round of the season.  The junior shot the first round under-par for Gustavus this year with a two-under-par 70 on Saturday afternoon to place him in a tie for fourth after one round of play.  The Gusties also got a key contribution from Alex Kolquist (Sr., Hermantown, Minn.) who finished the round with the second round under-par for Gustavus in 2012.  Kolquist shot a one-under-par 71 to rank him tenth heading into the second round.

The second round of the Twin Cities Classic will take place at the Links at North Fork in Ramsey, Minn. tomorrow morning.
