St. Paul, Minn. – For the second consecutive week, Gustavus Adolphus men’s golfer Andrew Oakes (Jr., Hermantown, Minn.) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Athlete-of-the-Week. The announcement came from the conference office Tuesday after a third place performance last weekend at the Saint John’s Invitational, his second straight top three finish.
Oakes shot an even-par 72 Saturday at Blackberry Ridge Golf Club followed by a one-over-par 73 on Sunday at Greystone Golf Club to total a one-over-par 145 on the tournament. The junior led the Gusties to a third place finish on the weekend, the highest by any MIAC team in the field.
The third place result on Sunday follows a first place finish at the Augsburg Invitational on Sept. 8th and 9th in which he tallied a stroke total of 147 (+3). With two top three performances in the young 2012 season, Oakes ranks second in the MIAC for stroke average per 18 holes (73.0).
The Gusties will be in action once again this weekend, heading to Eau Claire, Wis., to compete in the Eau Claire Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 23rd and Monday, Sept. 24th at the Eau Claire Country Club.
