Men’s Golf Ties For Third At Saint John’s Invitational

Junior Andrew Oakes led the Gusties with a third place 145 (+1) on the weekend.

Sauk Centre, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s golf team tied for third in the Saint John’s Invitational after shooting a final round 301 (+13) at Greystone Golf Club on Sunday afternoon.  The Gusties totaled a 23-over-par 599 in the two-day tournament, as the Gustie men tie for third with Saint John’s behind the University of Manitoba (590, +14) and Nebraska Weslyan University (592, +16).  Gustavus will be back in action next weekend at the UW-Eau Claire Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 23rd and Monday, Sept. 24th.

Andrew Oakes (Hermantown, Minn.) continued his strong start to the season.  The junior tied for third with a final round 73 (+1) on Sunday after shooting a first round 72 (E) on Saturday.  Senior Alex Kolquist (Hermantown, Minn.) was the only other Gustie to register a top ten finish on the weekend.  Kolquist recorded a 75 (+3) on Sunday after shooting a 72 (E) on Saturday to place him in a three-way tie for eighth.

“We didn’t have our A-game today and still put a decent number up on the board,” said assistant coach Jordan Hawkinson.  “It was a solid weekend.  We are getting better everyday, and looking forward to next weekend in Eau Claire.”

The Gusties will travel to Eau Claire, Wis. next weekend to compete in the UW-Eau Claire Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 23rd and Monday, Sept. 24th.
