Men’s Golf In 11th At NCAA Championships After Day One Posted on May 15th, 2012 by

The Gustavus men’s golf team shot a 301 (+13) in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championships Tuesday in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. and sits in 11th place. Host institution Oglethorpe leads the field of 41 after recording a 285 (-3) at the Mission Inn Resort & Club. Claremont Mudd Scripps and Christopher Newport both shot a 289 (+1) and are tied for second.

Sophomores Simon Erlandsson and Tyler McMorrow, who each tallied an even-par 72 on the El Campeon Course, are tied for ninth place to lead the Gusties and are four strokes behind the leader – Oglethrope’s Anthony Maccaglia (-4). Erlandsson collected five birdies and five bogeys, while McMorrow had four of each.

Gustavus junior Alex Kolquist recorded a 78 (+6) and is tied for 83rd. Junior Trevor Gervais marked a 79 (+7) on his card and is tied for 109th, while second-year Andrew Oakes posted an 81 (+9) for 141st.

The second round for the Three Crowns will be played on the Las Colinas Course. Gervais will begin play for the team with a 12:00 p.m. EST tee time, followed by Erlandsson (12:10 p.m.), Oakes (12:20 p.m.), McMorrow (12:30 p.m.) and Kolquist (12:40 p.m.).
