Men’s Golf Earns At-Large Bid Into NCAA Championships Posted on May 7th, 2012 by

The NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Committee announced 41 teams and five individuals that will participate in the 2012 Division III Men’s Golf Championships. Among those 41 schools will be the Gustavus Adolphus men’s golf team who qualifies for the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive season.

“It wasn’t an easy call for the committee and we were waiting on pins and needles once again, but it’s good to get in,” Head Coach Scott Moe said. “We played as good as we could have this spring and we put ourselves in a great position.”

The championships will be held May 15-18, at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. Oglethorpe and the Central Florida Sports Commission will host the championships. The Gusties have an advantage in that they have already played at the Mission Inn Resort during the fall season. The Three Crowns took 13th out of 18 teams at the 2011 Gordin Collegiate Classic on Sept. 25-27.

A total of 210 participants will compete at the championships. Thirty-one conferences were awarded automatic qualification for the championships. Three teams were selected from Pool B, which consists of independent schools, and schools that are members of conferences that do not meet the requirements for automatic qualification. The final seven berths – which includes Gustavus – were reserved for Pool C, which are schools from automatic-qualifying conferences that are not the conference champion and any remaining Pool B teams. The University of St. Thomas received the MIAC’s automatic qualifying bid.

The top five individuals are selected from the remaining players who have not qualified with a team.
