Sam Falk is the current leader of the Augustana Invitational after the first day of competition.

The Gustavus women’s golf team shot a 310 (+22) in the opening round of the Augustana Spring Invitational being held at the Prairie Green Golf Course in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Saturday and Sunday.  Augustana is in the lead after shooting a 302 (+14) on day one.  MSU, Mankato and Nebraska-Omaha sit in a tie for second at 309 (+21).  The final day of the Augustana Invite will begin at 9:00 a.m. with a shotgun start tomorrow morning.

“Sam played great and had six birdies, which we knew she could do,” said Head Coach Scott Moe.  “The whole team played solid and they know they can go even lower tomorrow.   We’re facing some tough competition, but a 310 is a great start.  One great low round to go with some consistent scores made for a good day.  We will look to build on that tomorrow.”

Sam Falk shot a two under par 70 to pace the competition.  Behind her is Melyssa Boer of UNO who shot a 72 (E) to finish in second, and Samantha Bergmann of MSU in third with a 74 (+2).

Kayleigh Dittes finished with a 79 (+7) and sits in a tie for 17th place.  Jordan and Taylor Drenttel both fired an 80 (+8) to finish in a tie for 20th.  Jordan is competing as an individual in the tournament, as is Rikka Holiday who shot an 88 (+16, t-45th).  Rounding out Gustavus’ squad was Liz Strom in 25th with an 81 (+9) and Annie Jackson in 28th with an 82 (+10).
