The Gustavus men’s and women’s golf teams both competed in head-to-head duals against Flagler College on Friday, April 6 at the St. John’s Country Club located between St. Augustine and Jacksonville in northeast Florida. The Gustavus men’s golf team suffered a five-stroke loss in its first competition of the spring season, while the women fell by 12 strokes in its match. On the men’s side, Flagler shot a 296 (+8) to win the dual over Gustavus who shot a 302 (+14). The Flagler women shot a 314 (+26) compared to the Gusties 326′ (+38).
Leading the way for the Gusties on the men’s side was Alex Kolquist who shot an even par 72 in the one-round contest. Kolquist finished runner-up to Flagler’s Greg Mergel who won the dual with a two under par 70. Rounding out the top three was Jonathan Folkner with a 74 (+2).
Gustavus’ Trevor Gervais and Tyler McMorrow both finished tied for fifth place after shooting a 76 (+4), while Andrew Oakes (78, +6) and Simon Erlandsson (79, +7) rounded out the team in eighth and ninth, respectively.
At the front of the womens’ team was Kayleigh Dittes and Tyalor Drenttel. Both players shot an eight over par 80 to finish tied for fourth place. Rikka Holiday and Ann Jackson shot an 83 (+11) to finish sixth, while Sam Falk took 10th with a 95 (+23).
Flagler golfers Victoria Seenath (73, +1), Marie Santacroce (78, +6), and Leslie Choucard (79, +7) finished first, second, and third, respectively, at the dual.
The Gustavus men’s golf team will be in action next at the Emory Invitational taking place Monday, April 9 and Tuesday, April 10 at Druid Hills in Atlanta, Georgia. The women’s squad will take part in the Augustana Invitational on April 14-15 in Sioux Falls, S.D. in its next outing.
