Gustavus Adolphus gymnasts Samantha Opsahl (Jr., Forest Lake, Minn.), Jamie Ries (So., Monticello, Minn.), and Bailey Zeinert (Jr., Oshkosh, Wis.) brought the 2012 season to a close this weekend at the 2012 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) National Championships held at the College at Brockport in Brockport, New York.
Competing on the balance beam and floor exercise, Sam Opsahl scored a 9.200 on the beam to finish 27th and a 9.075 on the floor to finish 40th.
Jamie Ries concluded her sophomore season with a 31st place finish on the floor after scoring a 9.275 and a 37th place mark on the vault after a 9.225 routine. Ries’ performance on the floor was her second-best of the year.
Bailey Zeinert rounded out the Gustavus competitors with a score of 8.525 on the beam, earning 50th.
The National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) also announced the All-American Scholar Team at the meet and two Gustavus gymnasts were recognized for their academic accomplishments. Taking home the honor were seniors Maren Lodge (Coon Rapids, Minn.) and Amanda Woodhull (Minnetonka, Minn.). Lodge is an english major who maintains a cumulative grade point average of 3.726, and Woodhull is a nursing major with a GPA of 3.705.
