Men’s Tennis Returns To MIAC Play, Shuts Out Saint Mary’s 9-0 Posted on March 24th, 2012 by

Joey MacGibbon made quick work at No. 5 singles, winning 6-1, 6-0.

The Gustavus men’s tennis team returned to MIAC action Friday in Winona, Minn. after seven non-league matches and kept its undefeated conference record alive with a 9-0 shutout over Saint Mary’s University. The 24th-ranked Gusties improve to 6-0 in the MIAC and 11-4 overall, while the Cardinals drop to 8-6 overall and 1-2 in league play.

In the singles draw, Gustavus didn’t give up more than two games per set and won each doubles match by at least five games.

3. Tyler Johnson/Patrick Clark (GAC) def. Gavin Smith/Nick Kasel (SMU) 8-2

Gustavus returns home for two non-conference match-ups Saturday against St. Norbert (11:30 a.m.) and St. Cloud State University (6:30 p.m.) at the Swanson Tennis Center.
