Women’s Indoor Track & Field In Seventh Following Day Two Of MIAC Championships Posted on March 3rd, 2012 by

The Gustavus women’s indoor track and field team is in seventh place with 29 points heading into the final day of the 2012 MIAC Indoor Championships being held in the Leonard Center on the campus of Macalester College in St. Paul.  St. Thomas is the current leader with 103 points, while Carleton sits in second (69 pts.) and St. Olaf sits in third (57 pts.).

Junior Allyson Voss (Wausau, Wis.) stole the show on Friday, winning the pole vault after clearing 11’ 0.75”.  Voss, a third place finisher in the event in 2010, is the first MIAC Champion in the pole vault since Shanna Dawson took the MIAC crown in 2008.

Senior Megan Endresen (Lino Lakes, Minn.) also took home All-Conference honors in the weight throw with a season-best toss of 52’ 8”.  Endresen was ranked fifth in the weight throw entering the meet.
Junior Beth Hauer (Little Falls, Minn.) led the Gusties on the track with a fifth place mark in the 5,000-meter run, turning in a time of 18:22.71.  First-year Caitlin Fermoyle (Mendota Heights, Minn.) placed seventh in the mile (5:19.62), while first-year Sara Lundgren (Mankato, Minn.) took ninth in the 400-meter dash (60.35) and first-year Rebecca Hare (Albany, Minn.) finished ninth in the 5,000-meter (18:54.00).

Senior Emily Klatt (Woodbury, Minn.) turned in a sixth place finish in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 36’ 0.25”.  Klatt ranked 10th in the event coming into the meet.  Senior Holly Hoffmann (Prior Lake, Minn.) rounded out the day by placing seventh in the pole vault after clearing 10’ 0.75”.

Throughout the entire championship meet, the top three finishers in each individual event and each winning relay team earn automatic MIAC All-Conference honors. All-Conference Honorable Mention is awarded to places 4-6 in each individual event, and 2-6 in the relays.

The third and final day of the event will take place Saturday, with field events starting at 11:30 a.m. and track events starting at 2 p.m. Saturday’s final event begins at 5:15 p.m., and there will be a short awards ceremony following the conclusion of the meet to honor the team champions.
