Gustavus Adolphus sophomore Jamie Ries (Monticello, Minn.) was named WIAC Gymnastics Specialist-of-the-Week for her performance at the Best of Minnesota Invitational held Saturday, Feb. 11 in the Sports Pavilion on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
Ries broke out with her best performance of the season against a contingency of competitors that will be among the finest she will face all year. She recorded team-best scores on the balance beam (10th), floor exercise (10th), and vault (13th).
The Monticello, Minn. native’s scores of 9.00 on the beam and 9.375 on the floor are season-high marks for the sophomore. She also earned a 9.200 on the vault, scoring above a 9.000 on the vault for the sixth-straight meet this season.
Jamie Ries is the second Gustavus athlete to take home WIAC Specialist of the Week honors this season. Sam Opsahl (Forest Lake, Minn.) also earned the distinction on Jan. 31st following the John Zuerlein Invitational.
