Junior Kate Eggers and senior Brooke Beskau led the Gustavus women’s cross country team to a second place finish (73 points) out of 10 teams at the Dan Huston Invitational in Waverly, Iowa on Saturday morning. Eggers took seventh place with a time of 23:34 and Beskau crossed the finish line four seconds later for eighth place.
Wartburg took home top honors at its home meet with 69 points, including two top-four individual performers – Emily Eimers won the event with a time of 22:53 and Sammi Bruett placed fourth at 23:22 out of a field of 139. Grinnell posted 86 points for third place behind the Gusties.
Including Eggers and Beskau, seven Gusties placed in the top-50. Elizabeth Hauer finished on the heels of her teammates with a time of 23:49 for 11th place. Caitlin Fermoyle took 21st at 24:35, Kim Rostvold in 26th at 24:51, Lyndsi Schwichtenberg in 37th at 25:28 and Meredith Bache-Wiig in 48th at 25:56. The Gusties posted a collective time of 2:00:24.
The Gusties’ next meet is Oct. 15 at the Tori Neaubauer Invitational in La Crosse Wis. The women’s 6K race will begin at 11:30 a.m.
