Angela Ahrendt – September Student-Athlete of the Month – Senior, Volleyball
Gustavus Adolphus volleyball player Angela Ahrendt has been named September Student-Athlete of the Month by the Gustavus Office of Sports Information. The senior middle hitter has proven to be a consistent force at the net through the opening month of play, knocking down a team-high 223 kills for an average of 3.48 per set and 12.39 per match. The Gusties, who are 13-5 overall, are currently tied for first place in the conference standings alongside five over squads at 3-1 in league play.
The Shoreview, Minn. native set the tone for the month with an outstanding performance in the team’s opening tournament of the season at the Pikes Peak Challenge held in Colorado Springs, Colo. Ahrendt finished the tournament with 67 kills and 12 blocks, averaging 3.94 kills per set with a .368 attack percentage, earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
Ahrendt later etched her name in the Gustavus volleyball record book by becoming the 13th player in Gustie volleyball history to join the 1,000 Kill Club with an 18-kill performance in a 3-2 win over St. Olaf on Sept. 21st.
Angela has tallied double-figure kills in every match by two this season. Her season-high 22-kill mark came in a 3-2 thriller over SUNY-New Paltz to cap off the Pikes Peak Challenge. The senior captain is currently ranked fourth in the MIAC in hitting percentage (.346) and sixth in kills (223).
“As a senior and co-captain Angela has had a great year so far. Not only has she achieved the career milestone of 1,000 kills, but she has been one of our go-to offensive players the whole season,” said Head Coach Rachelle Dosch on the play of her standout middle hitter. “She also was on the All-Tournament team at Colorado College Tourney and is in the top-six of the MIAC leaderboard in kills and hitting percentage. We expect great things out of Angela for the rest of the season.”
Ahrendt and the rest of the Gustavus volleyball team will take the court on Friday, Oct. 7 for a non-conference match-up against Bethel University slated for 7:00 p.m. The match will be broadcast live on Stretch Internet through the Gustavus Athletics website.
