Former Gustavus women's hockey player Kirstin Peterson named Assistant Coach for the Gustavus women's hockey team.

Former women’s hockey standout and 2011 Gustavus graduate Kirstin Peterson returns to campus as the assistant women’s hockey coach.  Peterson, a mainstay of the Gustavus blue line the past four seasons, recently earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Health Fitness in May.

During her tenure as a player, the Golden Gusties went 91-16-9 overall and 62-5-5 in the MIAC, winning four MIAC Championships and taking home four MIAC Playoff Titles.  She recorded a total of 16 goals and 59 assists for 75 points, ranking 21st overall and third among defensemen in career points at Gustavus.  Peterson, a four-time All-MIAC performer and three-time All-American (2009, 2010, and 2011), broke the program’s “Iron Woman” award in 2011, setting a new games played mark by skating in all 116 contests over her career.

“We are excited to add Kirstin to our staff.  It will be a pretty seamless transition because not only was she one of the best defensemen in the country during her career, but also, she knows what it takes to win and she has a great understanding of our system,” commented Head Coach Mike Carroll.

Peterson will work primarily with the defensemen along with assisting coach Carroll with practice planning, game-film prep, and recruiting.  Along with her duties to team, Peterson will serve as the director of club sports at Gustavus.

Kirstin is a native of St. Paul and a 2007 graduate of Hill-Murray School, where she competed in both hockey and softball.  She has previously worked in hockey at the Gustavus Hockey Summer Camp and Steve Carroll Goalie School.
