Gustavus Adolphus sophomore hurdler Steve Groskreutz has been named MIAC Outdoor Track and Field Track Athlete of the Week for his performance at the Meet of the UnSaintly hosted by Hamline this past Friday and Saturday. Groskreutz registered two top-10 finishes at the meet, taking second in the 400-meter hurdles and sixth in the 110-meter hurdles.
Groskreutz, a native of Faribault, Minn., recorded a time of 54.17 in the 400-meter hurdles, provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Championships. His time in the 400 is currently the second ranked mark in the MIAC behind Tommie Matthew Griswold’s time of 53.22. In the 110-meter hurdles, Groskreutz placed sixth with a time of 15.61, a personal season-best that ranks him third in the race entering the MIAC Championships. The sophomore was top Division III runner in the 400-meter hurdles, while placing ranking second among Division III foes in the 110.
Steve Groskreutz and the rest of the Gustavus track and field team will compete at the 2011 MIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on its home track in St. Peter, Minn. on May 13-14.
