Softball Set To Take On Saint Mary’s In Opening Round Of MIAC Playoffs Posted on May 6th, 2011 by

The 2011 MIAC Softball Playoffs will take place at the Bethel University and the University of St. Thomas on May 6-7.

The Gustavus Adolphus softball team is set to take on Saint Mary’s in the first round of the MIAC Playoffs on Friday, May 6 at 2:30 p.m. on the campus of Bethel University in Arden Hills, Minn.  The Gusties earned the #2 seed after finishing the regular season with an overall record of 25-12-1 and a MIAC mark of 18-3-1.  Saint Mary’s enters as the #3 seed with an overall record of 22-14 and a MIAC mark of 15-7.  The two teams split in their regular season series, as the Cardinals won 4-1 in game one, while Gustavus took game two by the score of 5-0.

Friday’s contest will be the seventh meeting between the two squads in the MIAC Playoffs.  The playoff series between the Gusties and Cardinals is even at 3-3, as Saint Mary’s came out victorious 8-4 in the last meeting on May 5, 2007.

Regular season champion St. Thomas will battle #4 seed Hamline in the other first round game on Friday at 2:30 p.m. at St. Thomas.  The two first round winners will play at 5:00 p.m. at St. Thomas, while the losing two squads will play at 5:00 p.m. at Bethel.
