Men’s Golf Selected To Compete In NCAA Championships Posted on May 3rd, 2011 by

The NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships committee announced its 2011 National Championships field on Monday afternoon and the Gustavus men’s golf team received an at-large bid to participate in the championships, which will take place May 10-13 at Grandover Resort in Greensboro, North Carolina.

A total of 205 participants will compete at the 2011 championships. Twenty-eight conferences were awarded automatic qualification for the championships. Six teams were selected from Pool B, which consists of independent institutions, and institutions that are members of conferences that do not meet the requirements for automatic qualification. The final six berths were reserved for Pool C, which are institutions from automatic-qualifying conferences that are not the conference champion and any remaining Pool B teams.  Gustavus was a Pool C selection.

The Gusties earned the bid after an outstanding spring season that has seen them finish first at the 16-team Saint John’s Invitational and second at the 16-team Bobby Krig Invitational (hosted by Gustavus).  Coach Scott Moe’s squad has averaged a team score of 292.0 through seven rounds this spring, which translates to an average score of 73.0 per golfer (of the four scores counted per round).  Individually, the trio of Alex Kolquist (73.28), Trevor Gervais (73.5) and Tyler McMorrow (73.7) leads the way., while Andrew Oakes (74.28) and Simon Erlandsson (74.85) follow closely behind.
