Women’s Tennis Suffers Narrow 5-4 Loss To Middlebury Posted on March 28th, 2011 by

Marianne Barau improved to 12-3 on the season with the victory at #3 singles.

The Gustavus women’s tennis team suffered a nail-biting 5-4 loss to #12 Middlebury College on Monday afternoon in Atlanta.  The loss snapped the Gusties five-game winning-streak, as they are now 1-1 in the FAB 10 Tournament hosted by Emory University.  After taking two points from the doubles competition, Middlebury came back with four wins in singles to win the match.  The Panthers improved to 9-5 overall with the win, while Gustavus falls to 9-5.

Marianne Barau and Alex Erickson defeated Victoria Aiello and Anna Burke 8-5 at #2 doubles, and Mary Roop and Megan Born defeated Sally Wilkey and Dorrie Paradies 9-8 (7-3) at #3 doubles.

Barau and Roop recorded Gustavus’ two wins in singles play.  Barau took down Wilkey 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 at #3 singles, and Roop defeated Paradies 7-5, 6-3 at #5.

The Gustavus women’s tennis team will take on host Emory at 3:00 p.m. tomorrow afternoon at the Woodruff P.E. Center.
