Men’s Tennis Falls To #1 Middlebury 8-1 Posted on March 28th, 2011 by

The Gustavus men’s tennis team opened its Spring Break Trip to California with an 8-1 loss to top-ranked Middlebury 8-1 in Los Angeles.  The Gusties victory came at #5 singles where Marcel Gyswyt defeated James Burke 6-4, 7-6 (5).  Gyswyt is now 7-2 this spring at the #5 position.  The Panthers swept the other five singles matches in straight sets, while also claiming all three doubles matches.  Gustavus, which is now 11-5 on the season and ranked #27 nationally, will face #17 Redlands University in Redlands, California on Wednesday, March 30 at 1 pm (CDT).

2. Zach Bruchmiller (MC) defeated Patrick Clark (GA) 6-1, 6-2

4. Spencer Lunghino (MC) defeated Tyler Johnson (GA) 6-2, 7-5
5. Marcel Gyswyt (GA) defeated James Burke (MC) 6-4, 7-6 (5)
6. Brantner Jones (MC) defeated Joe MacGibbon (GA) 6-3, 6-0

Doubles
1. Peters/Jones (MC) defeated Donkena/Clark (GA) 8-4
2. Mike Malhame/Angle (MC) defeated Johnson/MacGibbon (GA) 8-6
3. David Farah/Lunghino (MC) defeated Chu/Gyswyt (GA) 8-5
