Coach Haller and the team in pink for a past Pink Zone event.
The Gustavus women’s basketball team is sponsoring a Pink Zone event on Saturday for the Gusties home game against St. Thomas. The event will be held in honor of former North Carolina State women’s basketball coach Kay Yow who passed away in 2009 after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer.
Coach Mickey Haller and her squad will be asking fans to donate to the Kay Yow Fund to fight breast cancer sponsored by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). The Gustavus coaching staff will wear pink during the game and the players will wear pink accessories including hair ribbons, shoe laces, wrist bands and head bands. The team is also inviting its fans to wear pink for the game. Information will also be available about opportunities to support breast cancer research as well as literature about the disease and encouraging women to get checkups for early detection.
The Gustavus vs. St. Thomas game will begin at 1:00 pm at Gus Young Court in the Lund Center.
