Men’s Nordic Skiing Takes St. Olaf Invitational Title; Women Finish Second Posted on January 31st, 2011 by

The Gustavus men’s and women’s nordic ski teams competed in the St. Olaf Invitational on Saturday afternoon, with the Gustie women finishing second and the men taking home the title. The invitational was held at Theodore Wirth Park in St. Paul, Minn., and featured a handful of alums from the three schools participating in the event.

The Gustie men were powered by Anders Bowman, who took the crown in the 10k freestyle with a time of 26:43.4. Peter Larsen finished third in a time of 26:56.9 and Andrew Tilman finished fourth in a time of 27:23.8 as the Gusties took six of the top ten individual slots in the standings.

Cassandra Brady led the charge for the Gustie women, finishing third in a time of 30:37.2. Danielle Burgmeier finished fifth in 33:05.7 and Erin Hill finished seventh to round out the skiers scoring points for the Gusties.

“Our team isn’t quite at full strength yet due to illness,” said head coach Jed Friedrich. “With that said, however, we had some good results this weekend.”

The Gusties will now prepare for the Central Collegiate Ski Association Championships to be held February 12-13 in Marquette, Mich.
