Gustavus Adolphus women’s golfer Katie Schenfeld has earned MIAC Women’s Golf Athlete of the Week honors for her first place performance at the 2010 MIAC Championships held Oct. 1-3 at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids, Minn.

Katie Schenfeld Earns MIAC Golf Athlete of the Week for third time this fall.

For the third time this fall, Katie Schenfeld has been named the MIAC Women’s Golf Athlete of the Week.  The senior from Indianola, Iowa took home individual medalist honors at the 2010 MIAC Women’s Golf Championship for the second consecutive year after turning in a score of 224 (+8).  Schenfeld led the Gustavus women’s golf team to its third straight MIAC Title after recording a three-day team score of 974 (+110).  With the victory, the Gusties earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Championships this Spring.

Schenfeld built a 17-shot lead heading into the final day after posting a total of 73-73–146 on the first two days of play.  She capped the MIAC Championship by shooting a 78 on the final day, besting her 2009 total of 236 by 12 strokes.  It is the 11th time in her career that Schenfeld has taken home MIAC Golfer of the Week Honors.  Schenfeld, the four-time All-MIAC performer, is the first Gustavus women’s golfer in the history of the program to take home back-to-back MIAC individual titles.

The Gusties will close out their fall season at the Northern Illinois University Invitational in Huntley, Ill. this weekend.
