Andrew Oakes is in sixth place after shooting a 75 in day one

The Gustavus Adolphus men’s golf team is currently in third place after shooting a team-score 306 (+6) in the first day of competition at the 2010 MIAC Championship being held at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids, Minn. this weekend.  Saint John’s is the current leader after firing a 294 (+12), while St. Olaf is in second place with a 300 (+12).

Individually, Andrew Oakes is the top Gustavus golfer, as he sits in sixth place with a score of 75 (+3).  Alex Kolquist and Tyler McMorrow broke the top-20, sitting in a six-way tie for 12th place after shooting a 76 (+4).  Simon Erlandsson and Alex Peterson round out the Gustavus team in 23rd (79) and 37th (83).

In the lead is Saint John’s Casey Vangsness.  Vangsness is the only golfer in the field to finish under par, shooting a 71 (-1).  His teammate Dennis Granath and Ryan Lubinsky of St. Olaf are currently tied for second place at 72 strokes (E).

“Our goal is to turn in four good scores and to not play tentatively tomorrow,” said Head Coach Scott Moe.

The Gustavus men’s soccer team will tee off at 12:30 pm tomorrow in the second day of competition.
