Women’s Golf Finishes Fifth At O’Brien National Invitational

The Gustavus Adolphus women’s golf team shot a 325 in day two for a two-day total 652 (+76) to finish in fifth place at the O’Brien National Invitational held at the Warren Golf Course on the campus of the University of Notre Dame Saturday and Sunday in South Bend, Indiana.  Gustavus senior captain Katie Schenfeld earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team after finishing in a three-way tie for fifth place with a score of 80-77-157 (+13).

Methodist University turned in the top team score with a 316-317-633 (+57) to repeat as team champion of the O’Brien Invitational.  UW- Eau Claire placed second (641), while Allegheny College rounded out the top three in third (643).

Individually, Taylor Drenttel and Ann Jackson both broke into the top 20.  Drentell finished 16th after firing a 79-84-163, while Jackson finished 19th with an 85-79-164.  Kayleigh Dittes shot an 83-86-169 (t-30th), Rikka Holiday shot an 83-89-172 (t-37th), and Nicole Tetrault rounded out the team, shooting a 92-85-177 (50th).

Page Caldwell of Methodist University was crowned the 2010 Individual Medalist after turning in a 76-77-153 (+9).  Taylor Beaty of DePauw University, Lizzie Blyth of Allegheny College, and Mary Kate Boyce of St. Mary’s College (Ind.) all finished in a three-way tie for second place with a 156 (+12).

“We faced a very strong field and we started to show flashes of brilliance this weekend.  We still need to work on consistency and finishing off a tournament, yet the team is on the right track to play our best golf when the conference tournament comes around,” said head coach Scott Moe.

The Gustavus women’s golf team will travel to Marshall, Minn. to take part in the Mustang Invitational held Sept. 25-26 at the Marshall Golf Club.
