Senior linebacker Jade Kotila named MIAC Defensive Player of the Week

Gustavus Adolphus senior linebacker Jade Kotila (Maple Lake, Minn.) was named MIAC Football Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Gustavus’s 29-0 victory over Northwestern last Saturday.  Kotila recorded career highs with two interceptions and 10 assisted tackles, helping Gustavus to its first shut-out victory since 2006.

Kotila’s first interception of the afternoon came late in the first quarter when he picked off quarterback Josh Balzer’s pass at the Gustavus five-yard-line, putting an end to an 11-play 65 yard Northwestern drive.  His next interception came mid-way through the second quarter and led to Gustavus’s opening touchdown of the game two plays later.  Kotila picked off the pass at the Northwestern 27-yard-line and returned the ball 17 yards to the Eagle 10-yard-line.

The Gustavus defense allowed just 149 yards of total offense in the game, 45 yards rushing and 104 yards passing.

The Gusties will host St. Olaf for Homecoming on Saturday, Sept. 25th at 1:30 pm in St. Peter, Minn.
