The Gustavus men’s golf team shot a 54-hole total of 297-314–611 (+35) and won the 19-team Augsburg Invitational held at the Majestic Oaks Golf Course in Ham Lake, Minn. on Saturday and Sunday.  The Gusties filled the podium with three golfers finishing in the top three. Individually, freshman Simon Erlandsson had a breakout weekend in his first collegiate tournament, taking first place with a 142 (70-72).  Erlandsson was the only golfer to shoot under par on the weekend at -2.

Freshman Tyler McMorrow also had a big weekend, finishing second after firing a 70-77 for a 147 (+3).  Sophomore Alex Kolquist tied for third place with Saint John’s Mark Giorgi as he posted a 150 (76-74).  Sophomore Trevor Gervais was the only other Gustavus golfer to break into the top 20, finishing in a five-way tie for 20th at 156 (78-78). The second Gustavus team finished eighth with a score of 310-321–631 (+55).

Saint John’s finished second after firing a two-day total of 312-302–614 (+38), while St. Thomas finished two shots behind the Johnnies in third place with a total of 305-311–616 (+40).

The Gustavus men’s golf team will be in action next weekend at the Saint John’s Invitational on Saturday and Sunday Sept. 18-19.  Saturday’s competition will be held at the Greystone Country Club in Sauk Centre, Minn., and Sunday’s competition will be held at Blackberry Ridge Golf Club in St. Cloud, Minn.
