NCAA Outdoor Track And Field Championships: Day Two Recap Posted on May 29th, 2010 by

Select members of the Gustavus men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in the second day of competition at the Division III NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships being held on the campus of Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio.

On the women’s side, Sam Broderius took ninth place in the shot put with a toss of 44’ 10.25”.  She finished fourth in heat #1 earlier in the day with the same shot of 44’ 10.25.

Janey Helland had a strong day in the final three events of the heptathlon.  Helland, who sat in 14th place after day one with 2643 points, moved up 10 spots to take fourth place overall with 4722 points.  In day two, Helland took first in the long jump (17’ 10.25”), fourth in the 800-meter run (2:22.86), and fifth in the javelin (121’ 7”).

Kaelene Lundstrum competed in the high jump in day two.  After ranking fifth in the heptathlon with 2818 points after day one, Lundstrum finished in 13th place overall in the event with 4339 points.  She placed 14th in all three events in day two, the long jump (15’ 10.25”), javelin (98’ 8”), and 800-meter run (2:41.86).

Max Hanson represented the men’s squad by competing in the trials of the 800-meter run.  Hanson took first place in heat #1 with a time of 1:51.68.  His time was the fifth fastest of all competitors, as he will run in lane five in the finals Saturday, May 29 at 3:00pm EST.
