Max Hanson Named Central Region Track Athlete Of The Year

Gustavus Adolphus senior Max Hanson (Montrose, Minn.) has been honored as the Central Region Men’s Track Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Hanson will compete in this weekend’s NCAA Championships held in Berea, Ohio on May 27-29.  Hanson enters the NCAA Championships with second fastest time in the 800-meter dash (1:50.31).  He is also a member of the 4×400-meter relay team, which ranks second heading to the NCAA Championships with a time of 3:12.88.

Hanson won both the 800-meter run with a time of 1:52.07 and 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:16.94 at the MIAC Championships on May 14-15.  Also at the meet, he joined the third place 4×800-meter relay and fourth place 4×400-meter relay teams.

Hanson’s top performances of the season included first place finishes in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the Central Invite, 400-meter dash at the Carleton Relays, 800-meter run at the Gustie Invitational, and 800-meter run at the Meet of the UnSaintly.  Hanson was named the MIAC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week following his performance at the Meet of the UnSaintly.  He broke the Gustavus school record in the 800-meter run at the meet with a time of 1:50.31.  The record had stood at Gustavus for over 40 years.
