The Gustavus women’s outdoor track and field team registered 14 top five finishes at the Manitou Track and Field Classic held on the campus of St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn. on Saturday afternoon. Sam Broderius and Janey Helland registered individual event wins for Gustavus at the meet. Broderius won the shot put (41’ 4.25”) and Helland won the long jump (17’ 9.75”). No team scores were kept at the meet.
Along with her win in the shot put, Broderius also took third in the discus with a toss of 133’ 6”. Janey Helland also added a third place finish in the high jump, clearing 5’1”.
The Gusties registered eight top ten finishes in the track events at the meet. Kim Rostvold and Brook Beskau were the top performers in the track events as they were both third place finishers. Rostvold in the 3000-meter run with a time of 11:15.86, and Beskau in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 39:12.91.
Other top finishers in the track events included Amanda Iverson, Laura Secor, Danielle Burgmeier, and Abby Karl. Iverson finished fifth in the 400-meter dash (59.80), Secor took sixth in the 400-meter hurdles (66.90), Burgmeier finished seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (67.76), and Karl took ninth in the 800-meter run (2:21.24). The Gustavus 4×800 meter relay team took third (10:02.57), while the 4×400 meter relay took finished fifth (4:01.30).
Gustavus had nine top five finishes in the field events at the meet. Sarah Baker and Becca Bryson had a good day, as they both finished in the top five in two events. Baker took third in both the high jump (5’ 1”) and long jump (17’ 4.25”), and Bryson placed third in the javelin (112’ 2”) and fourth in the long jump (17’ 1.25”). Allyson Voss took fourth in the pole vault, clearing 10’ 8”, while Lauren Rothschiller added a sixth place finish in the triple jump (34’ 3.50”).
