Softball Splits Doubleheader at St. Olaf Posted on April 8th, 2010 by

The Gustavus softball team struggled a bit in Northfield on Wednesday afternoon rallying from an 8-3 loss in game one to claim a convincing 12-3 win in game two.  Kirsten Prunty led the Gusties offensively as she was 5-for-6 in the two games with two home runs and four RBI.

In game one, St. Olaf jumped out to a 3-0 lead when Ali Berens hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning.  The Oles scored six times in the first three innings on their way to their first win over Gustavus in 22 games dating back to 1999.  Erin Truebenbach was the losing pitcher for the Gusties.

In game two, Gustavus broke the game open with five runs in the third inning.  Danielle Cattrysse opened the inning with a solo home run and then Kirsten Prunty would stroke a two-run home run later in the inning.  Callie Nelsen was impressive on the mound as she scattered hits and allowed three earned runs.

The Gusties will face St. Catherine in their home opener on Thursday afternoon at 4 pm.
