Baseball Sweeps Marian College 9-7 and 9-2 Posted on March 28th, 2010 by

The Gustavus baseball team improved to 5-3 overall on the season by sweeping Marian College by the scores of 9-7 and 9-2 on Sunday afternoon in Phoenix, Arizona.  The Gusties will play Elmhurst College of Illinois on Monday at 3:30 pm (CDT).

In game one, the Gusties scored sixth times in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally from a 6-3 deficit to claim the 9-7 win.  Alan Woitas led Gustavus in hitting as he went 3-for-4 with three RBI including a clutch double that drove in two runs and tied the score at 6-6 in the sixth inning.  Derek Eddie started and pitched four and two-thirds innings giving up one run.  Ryan Michaelis pitched one and one-third innings  giving up five runs.  Michaelis was credited with the win.  Tory Herman pitched the seventh inning and was credited with the save.

In game two, Tori Herman was the hitting star as he drove in five runs including a bases loaded double in the sixth inning.  Alan Woitas, Tim Miller, Kevin Roth, and Kyle Rains each registered two hits at the plate.  Cody Sukalski pitched six innings scattering nine hits and allowing two earned runs.  Bryce Bintzler pitched the seventh inning.
