Four members of the Gustavus indoor track and field team have qualified to compete at the 2010 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships March 12-13 at the James A. Hollensteiner Track in the DePauw Indoor Tennis and Track Center on the campus of DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind. Seniors Max Hanson and Kaelene Lundstrum, and juniors Janey Helland and Sam Broderius will be among the total of 446 student-athletes competing in the two-day event.
Max Hanson, MIAC Champion in the 600-yard dash and 800-meter run, will compete in the 800-meter run at the NCAA Championships. He enters the event the #2 seed with a qualifying time of 1:52.54.
Kaelene Lundstrum, the three-time MIAC Champion in the pentathlon, will compete in both the pentathlon and high jump. She ranks second in the pentathlon with 3468 points, and ninth in the high jump with a mark of 1.68 meters.
Janey Helland also qualified in the pentathlon. She enters the NCAA Championships ranked fourth with 3369 points. Sam Broderius will compete in the shot put, coming in with the 11th best toss at 13.55 meters.
Highlights of the 2010 Division III Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships will be shown on CBS at 1 p.m. Eastern time, Saturday, May 1.
