The Gustavus men’s indoor track and field compiled 79.5 points to finish in fourth place at the 2010 MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships being held over the weekend in Northfield, Minn. The Gusties had a solid day on Saturday, scoring 43.5 points, an improvement of 7.5 points from Friday. St. Thomas compiled 163 points to claim it’s 26th consecutive MIAC title, narrowly edging out Hamline (156 points). Bethel rounded out the top three in third place with 121.5 points.
Max Hanson came up big for the Gusties once again, winning the 600-yard dash with a new recreation center and meet record time of 1:11.48. Cole Carlson finished third in the 600-yard dash with a time of 1:13.16, and ninth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.06. Carson Smith added a fourth place finish in the 1000-meter run (2:34.88).
The Gustavus 4×200-meter relay team of Matt Dvorak, Colby Citrowske, David Schutt, and Tony Reed finished runner-up with a time of 1:31.49, while the 4×400-meter relay team of Carlson, Hanson, Citrowske, and John Kennedy placed fourth with a time of 3:21.53.
Brian Anderson and Jake Peymann had the top Gustavus finishes in the field events, as Anderson took fourth in the shot put (48’ 2.50”), while Peymann placed seventh in the high jump (6’ 2”).
