Gymnastics Defeats Hamline 172.850-170.325 For First Victory Of Season Posted on February 12th, 2010 by

The Gustavus gymnastics team got it’s first win of the season with a 172.850-170.325 victory over Hamline on Friday night in St. Paul.  First year gymnast Sam Opsahl registered the only Gustavus event win of the night with a first place finish on the vault with a mark of 9.225.  Danielle Thibodeau finished second, as Kelly Mathewson finished third in the all-around with scores of 35.625 and 35.600, respectively.  Hamline’s Molly Weber finished first in the all-around with a score of 36.450.

Gustavus tallied individual event scores of 45.175 on the vault, 39.125 on the uneven parallel bars, 43.000 on the balance beam, and 45.550 on the floor exercise.  Hamline scored a 43.250 on the vault, 38.350 on the bars, 43.850 on the beam, and 44.875 on the floor.

Molly Weber took first place in the remaining events, scoring a 8.675 on the bars, 9.250 on the beam, and 9.425 on the floor.  Thibodeau placed third on the vault (9.075), bars (8.500), and floor (9.325), as Mathewson recorded Gustavus’s only other top-three finishes on the night by taking second on the bars (8.575) and third on the beam (8.900).

The Gustavus gymnastics team will hit the mats again on Thursday, Feb. 18, against UW-Eau Claire at 7:00pm in the Lund Center Forum.  The contest is designated as senior night and is the last regular season home meet of the season.
