Select members of the Gustavus women’s nordic ski team participated in the Grand View Cross Country Ski Challenge held in Ironwood, Mich., this past weekend. Cassandra Brady, Erica Hett, Danielle Burgmeier, and Annika Ferber represented the women’s nordic team in the two-day season opening event. Hett and Brady were the top Gustavus finishers over the weekend, as Hett placed 21st (35:20.0) in Sunday’s 10km classic race, while Brady placed 30th (17:01.3) in Saturday’s 5km freestyle race.
In Saturday’s 5km freestyle, Erica Hett and Danielle Burgmeier placed 39th (17:46.6) and 42nd (17:54.4), respectively, behind Brady. Annika Ferber placed 70th (19:54.3), as 82 total skiers competed in the race.
On Sunday, Erica Hett improved to placed 4th in her age division while taking 21st overall in the 10km classic. Burgmeier, Brady, and Ferber finished behind Hett as there were 56 skiers in the 10km classic race on Sunday. Burmeier finished in 29th place (35:47.3), Brady in 42nd (38:29.2), and Ferber in 52nd (42:05.0).
Gustavus alums Kelly Chaudoin ’09, Allison Bohn ’09, and Kathleen DeWahl ’08 all raced in the Grandview Ski Challange this weekend. All three former members of the
Gustavus nordic ski team placed in the top ten in both the 5km freestyle on Saturday and 10km classic on Sunday. Chaudoin placed first on Saturday and second on Sunday.
