The Gustavus women’s tennis team extended its win streak to five matches with convincing wins over Hamline (8-1) and St. Ben’s (8-1) at home on Sunday. The Gusties are now 17-9 overall and 8-0 in the MIAC.

Against Hamline, Gustavus claimed all three doubles matches and five of the six singles matches. All of the singles matches were won in straight sets. In doubles play, the Gusties did not drop a game in the #2 and #3 matches as Ali O’Neal and Erica Dobson defeated Sara Mitambo and Kristen Kiemele 8-0 at the #2 position, and Megan Gaard and Marianne Barau defeated Kelsey Eatherton and Nicole Krier 8-0 at the #3 spot.

Against St. Ben’s, the Gusties once again swept all three doubles matches in convincing fashion and then went on to win five of the six singles matches. Sierra Krebsbach remained undefeated in MIAC play at #1 singles (6-0) with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Rachel Tiegs.

Gustavus clinched a spot in the MIAC Post-Season Tournament with wins on Sunday. Coach Jon Carlson’s squad has two matches this week which will wrap up its regular season schedule. The Gusties will travel to Moorhead to face Concordia on Wednesday at 4 pm and then travel to St. Paul to face St. Thomas on Sunday at 12 pm.

If Gustavus can win its final two matches it will claim its 18th consecutive regular season title and earn the #1 seed for the MIAC Tournament, which will be played at Gustavus on Friday and Saturday, May 1-2. The winner of the MIAC Tournament receives an automatic bid to participate in the NCAA Championships.
