The Gustavus softball team swept Macalester in St. Paul on Thursday afternoon by the scores of 8-0 (5 inn.) and 10-0 (5 inn.). First year Lisa Klass was the hitting star for the Gusties as she went 4-for-5 with four runs scored and six RBI in the doubleheader. Betsie Collins was the winning pitcher in the first game, while Erin Truebenbach tossed a perfect game to claim the win in the second game. Gustavus improved to 19-3 overall and 8-0 in the MIAC.

In game one, the Gusties scored twice in the second inning and twice in the third, before breaking the game open with four runs in the fourth inning. Rachael Click had the big hit in the four-run fourth as she hit a two-run inside-the-park home run. Betsie Collins picked up the win on the mound as she scattered four hits and struck out six in five innings of work.

In game two, Lisa Klass gave the Gusties the only run they would need with a solo home run in the top of the first inning. Gustavus was leading 2-0 in the fourth inning when Klass broke the game open with a grand slam. Klass was 3-for-3 in the game with two home runs and five runs batted in. Rachael Click hit her second home run of the day in the fourth inning. It was the 22nd home run of Click’s career which tied her for first all-time at Gustavus in career home runs with Julie Mahre, who set the mark last season. Truebenbach was perfect on the mound as she mowed down 15 straight batters, striking out six. It was the first perfect game of her collegiate career.

Gustavus does not play this weekend. The team will return to action next Tuesday, April 14 at Bethel. The Gusties are currently in first place in the MIAC with a mark of 8-0.
