Softball Team Continues Winning Ways, Sweeps St. Olaf – 5-1, 11-0

The Gustavus softball team remained undefeated in conference play by sweeping St. Olaf on Wednesday afternoon in St. Peter by the scores of 5-1 and 11-0. Erin Truebenbach tossed a two-hitter for the Gusties in game one, and Callie Nelsen hurled a one-hitter in game two. Gustavus improves to 17-3 overall and 6-0 in the MIAC.

The Gusties jumped out to a 4-0 lead in game one and held on for a 5-1 victory. Emily Wendorff drove in Rachael Click in the first inning and then scored on a passed ball to give Gustavus a 2-0 lead. Dani Cattrysse’s single drove in Jenna Johnson in the second and Andrea Brown’s double drove in Emily Wendorff in the third. After St. Olaf scored in the top of the fourth to make the score 4-1, Kristen Prunty tripled to open the fourth and then scored on a bunt by Lisa Klass in the fourth to make the score 5-1. Erin Truebenbach picked up the complete game victory limiting the Oles to one run on two hits, while striking out 13 and walking three.

In game two, twelve different Gustavus players pounded out 14 hits as the Gusties scored twice in the first, seven times in the second, and two more in the fourth on their way to the 11-0 win in five innings. In the Gusties seven run second inning, nine players reached base and seven scored before the Oles were able to record an out. Six different players hit doubles in the game for Gustavus including Emily Klein, Rachael Click, Raquel Davis, Emily Wendorff, Lisa Klass, and Andrea Brown. Callie Nelsen was nearly perfect for the Gusties as she gave up only one hit, a single to Ellen Larson in the fourth inning. Nelsen did not walk a batter and struck out six in five innings.

The Gusties, who have now won eight straight games, will travel to Macalester on Thursday afternoon to face the Scots in a game that was originally scheduled for March 28th.
