Men’s Indoor Track and Field Claims First Place At The Meet Of The Hearts Posted on February 14th, 2009 by

The Gustavus men’s indoor track and field team claimed first place in seven events as the team finished first with 159 points at the Meet of the Hearts hosted by Carleton College. The Gusties finished 25.5 points ahead of fellow MIAC school, Hamline, which tallied 123.5 points. Other schools at the meet included Carleton, Luther, and Macalester, which tallied 121 points, 102.5 points, and 36 points, respectively.

Senior Tyler Geyen (Watertown, Minn.), who has not lost a 55 meter hurdles final yet this season, won the event with a time of 7.86. Joining Geyen with first place finishes in the running events were Matt Dvorak (Fy., Burnsville, Minn.) in the 200 meter dash (23.56) and Dan Foley (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn.) in the 5,000 meter run (15:42.54). The 4×200 meter relay team won its race with a time of 1:31.70. Rounding out the event champions were Alex Carpenter (Fy., Trimont, Minn.) in the long jump (20′ 7″) and Colin Rust (Sr., Chanhassen, Minn.) in the triple jump (41′ 11.75″).

Other top performers in the running events included Colby Citrowske (So., Canby, Minn.) in the 55 meter dash (2nd, 6.74), John Leaf (Sr., Center City, Minn.) in the 5,000 meter run (2nd, 15:59.15), and Matt Leeb (So., Kasota, Minn.) in the 400 meter dash (3rd, 51.32).

In the field events, Chris Golv (So., Forest Lake, Minn.) and Carl Stenoien (Fy., Underwood, Minn.) took second and third in the high jump after clearing heights of 6′ 2″ and 5′ 8″, respectively. Brian Anderson (Jr., Bloomington, Minn.) also finished second in the weight throw (45′ 4.5″).

The Gusties will compete at the Saint John’s Quad next Saturday at Collegeville, Minn. beginning at 11 a.m.
