Cold Shooting, Turnovers Doom Men’s Basketball Team In 69-50 Loss To Hawaii-Hilo
The Gustavus men's basketball team struggled in a 69-50 loss to the University of Hawaii-Hilo in Hilo on Wednesday night. The Gusties shot just 33.3 percent from the field (16-of-48) and committed 18 turnovers in their loss to the Vulcans.
Men’s Basketball Suffers 80-73 Setback To Hawaii Pacific University
The Gustavus men's basketball suffered a 80-73 loss to non-conference opponent Hawaii Pacific University on Monday night in Honolulu, Hawaii. Hawaii Pacific's Mike Helton led all scorers with 29 points. The Sea Warriors outshot the Gusties 53.4% (31-58) to 37.7% (26-69) in the game.
Palma, Welch, Knutson Named First Team All-Conference in Football
The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) football coaches recently announced their 2009 All-Conference Team and six Gustavus players were named to the first and second teams. Golden Gustie players named to the First Team included senior linebacker Tony Palma (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial), senior safety Joe Welch (Hastings, Minn.), and senior punter Matt Knutson (St. Peter, Minn.). The three players who were named to the Second Team included junior wide receiver Eliot Herdina (Blooming Prairie, Minn.), senior offensive tackle Jack Breckner (Wayzata, Minn.), and junior linebacker Paul Stommes (Richmond, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins).
Men’s Soccer Player Fraser Horton Named To NSCAA All-Region Team
Gustavus Adolphus College senior Fraser Horton (Missoula, Mont./Hellgate) was named National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III All-North Region Third Team on Tuesday. It is the third time that Horton has received All-Region honors in his four-year career at Gustavus. 13 players from the MIAC were honored, the most of any athletic conference in the region.
Jens Brabbit leads Nordic Ski Team At Grand View XC Ski Challenge
Select members of the Gustavus men's nordic ski team took part in the Grand View XC Ski Challenge this past weekend in Ironwood, Mich. Jens Brabbit placed fourth in both the 10k freestyle on Saturday, and 10k classic on Sunday.
Women’s Nordic Ski Team Takes Part In Grand View XC Ski Challenge
Select members of the Gustavus women's nordic skiing team took part in the Grand View Cross Country Ski Challenge held in Ironwood, Mich over the weekend. Top Gustavus finishers in the two-day event included Erica Hett and Cassandra Brady. Hett placed 21st overall in 10km classic on Sunday, while Brady finished 30th overall in the 5km freestyle on Saturday.
Men’s Hockey Slips Past Finlandia 3-2
The Gustavus men's hockey team jumped out to a 3-0 lead and then held on for a 3-2 win over Finlandia University on Saturday night at Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter. James Leathers scored the gamewinner for the Gusties and Jake Swansson was the winning goaltender.
Women’s Hockey Defeats St. Olaf 3-1
The Gustavus women's hockey team claimed a 3-1 win over St. Olaf in Northfield, Minn. on Saturday night. The Gusties got goals from Lindsey Hjelm and Whitney Schaff to take a 2-0 lead and then Allie Schwab closed out the scoring with an open net goal in the final seconds. Emily Klatt picked up the win in the nets.
Men’s And Women’s Swimming And Diving Take Part In Last Meet At St. Thomas’s O’Shaughnessy Pool
Members of the the Gustavus men's and women's swimming and diving teams took part in the last meet held in St. Thomas's O'Shaughnessy Natatorium on Friday night in St. Paul, Minn. Both St. Thomas squads were victorious in the meet, as the Tommie women swimmers won 43-32, with the men winning by the score of 49-36.
Men’s Basketball Downs Bethany Lutheran 69-40
The Gustavus men's basketball team defeated non-conference opponent Bethany Lutheran College 69-40 on Gus Young Court Saturday afternoon. The Gusties came out firing in the second half, going on a 21-3 to start the half. Gustavus outshot the Vikings 42.6% (26-61) to 29.8% (17-57) from the field in the game. Seth Anderson led all scorers with 14 points, while bringing down eight rebounds, and tallying four assists.
