The Gustavus men’s cross country team wrapped up its 2008 season with a 14th place finish (out of 26 teams) at the NCAA Central Region meet hosted by Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa on Saturday. The Gusties were led by senior Dan Foley (Minneapolis, Minn./South), who earned All-Region honors with a 14th place finish (out of 177 runners). Nebraska Wesleyan won the meet with a team score of 130. Gustavus posted a team total of 338.
Foley, who completed the 8,000 meter course in a time of 25:56, finished his career with a strong performance. The #1 runner for Gustavus all season, Foley earned All-Conference honors two weeks ago with a fifth place finish at the MIAC Championships, and finished by earning All-Region honors with his 14th place finish at the NCAA Regional.
Other finishes for Gustavus included John Leaf (Sr., Center City, Minn./Chisago Lakes), who placed 52nd with a time of 26:58.3, Nick Ross (So., Hastings, Minn.), who placed 83rd with a time of 27:37.3, Anders Bowman Fy., Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata), who placed 91st with a time of 27:48.7, Alex Prieve (Sr., Faribault, Minn.), who placed 98th with a time of 28:04.0, Dan Grannes (So., Apple Valley, Minn.), who placed 114th with a time of 28:35.7, and Mark Hartman (Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn.), who placed 118th with a time of 28:35.7.
The meet was the final race for seniors Dan Foley, John Leaf, and Alex Prieve, who have been an integral part of the Gustavus men’s cross country program for the past four years.
